The Q4 2024 market distribution for room-based video devices shows notable shifts from the previous quarter:
Appliance-based Solutions
Appliance-based solutions maintained their dominant position, accounting for 64% of total revenue, slightly down from 66% in Q3, but still representing the largest share by a significant margin. In terms of units, they account for 55% of shipments, down slightly from 57% in Q3. This minor adjustment suggests a stabilizing market where appliance-based solutions continue to be the preferred choice for enterprise video conferencing deployments.
PC-based Solutions
PC-based solutions strengthened their position as the second-largest revenue generator, increasing to 21% of total revenue, up from 20% in Q3. In terms of units, they grew to 17% from 16% in Q3, indicating a resurgence in demand for these versatile systems in Q4, likely driven by enterprise budget cycles and refresh projects.
Room BYOD Solutions
Room BYOD solutions saw revenue share growth to 13% of the total, up from 11% in Q3, while their unit share also increased to 27% from 24% in Q3. This shift suggests renewed interest in flexible, adaptable solutions, particularly for smaller meeting spaces and cost-sensitive deployments where BYOD options offer practical advantages.
Personal Appliance-based Solutions
Personal Appliance-based solutions maintained their position as a niche but stable segment, holding steady at approximately 2% of both revenue and units. This consistency indicates a small but dedicated market for specialized executive and personal video solutions.
The Q4 market distribution reflects a more balanced distribution across product segments compared to Q3, suggesting that while appliance-based solutions remain the cornerstone of enterise video deployments, organizations continue to implement diversified strategies that incorporate various solution types to address different use cases, room sizes, and budget considerations.

The ASP changes from Q3 to Q4 2024 reveal important shifts in pricing dynamics across segments:
Appliance-based Solutions
Appliance-based solutions showed a modest ASP increase of 1.7%, with revenue growing by 11.4% and units increasing by 9.5%. This positive ASP trend suggests successful value-based positioning and potentially a shift toward higher-end appliance solutions as enterprises invested their year-end budgets in premium video conferencing systems.
Personal Appliance-based Solutions
Personal Appliance-based solutions recorded a strong ASP increase of 8.9%, alongside a 4.9% revenue increase despite a 3.7% decline in units. This combination of higher pricing and lower volumes indicates a shift toward higher-value, feature-rich executive systems, possibly reflecting end-of-year purchasing of premium offerings.
PC-based Solutions
PC-based solutions experienced a slight ASP decline of 1.9%, while seeing substantial growth in both revenue (21.2%) and units (23.5%). This suggests competitive pricing strategies aimed at volume growth, successfully driving significant adoption during the Q4 budget cycle.
Room BYOD Solutions
Room BYOD solutions saw an ASP decrease of 3.3%, while experiencing strong growth in both revenue (24.4%) and units (28.7%). This pattern indicates that vendors may have used competitive pricing strategies to drive substantial volume increases, particularly as organizations sought cost-effective ways to expand their collaboration spaces.
The Q4 ASP trends reflect the complex dynamics of year-end purchasing patterns, with premium segments (appliance-based and personal appliance-based) showing price strength, while more flexible solutions (PC-based and BYOD) leveraged competitive pricing to drive significant volume growth. These divergent pricing strategies across segments suggest vendors are increasingly tailoring their approaches to different market needs and seasonal opportunities.

This report was developed using primary and secondary sources of information. The Collab Collective (TCC) regularly contacts and interviews approximately 40 vendors operating worldwide. TCC collects quarterly volume and revenue data from the major vendors throughout the year, allowing us to perform market-sizing based on data submitted directly by the suppliers. In cases where data is not directly provided, TCC has made estimates based on other data points from vendors combined with our market insights.
All revenues stated are from the technology vendor ("factory") and do not include channel/reseller markup ("retail"). We attempt to make our units clear in all figures and tables. Numbers in the tables may not add precisely to 100% due to rounding.
The table below shows The Collab Collective's definitions and examples of the different endpoint segments.
Over the last few years, we have seen the emergence of a new genre of traditional appliance-based codecs. These devices run Android versions of popular cloud-based conferencing services such as Microsoft Teams Room, Zoom Room, Google Meet Rooms, and others for room-use cases.
Although these devices seem very similar to the PC version of these applications, some noticeable differences exist, such as Android operating systems that can only be updated with firmware updates from the hardware vendor. These devices also leverage System-on-chip (SoC) hardware to accelerate audio and video encoding and decoding. Because of these characteristics, The Collab Collective categorizes these devices as Appliance-based Solutions.
